Talking of source documents . . .

The PRO seems to be in the throes of a publishing spree, with at least two books of documents out. Elizabeth I's first speech as Queen ("Blimey, that was a close call" would have been honest) is amongst the documents reproduced in full colour (so the blurb says) in the paperback - full price a penny shy of 15 quid on Lizzy I's reign but more to the point there is a volume on Richard. This includes a letter from Richard to his Mum in 1484, the official justification for taking the throne and a proclamation against Tudor from 1485. Again a paperback this is 128 pages long with 80 colour illustrations and is the same price as the other one.

Not a collection of letters, but this looks an affordable way of getting to see the documents (for those of us who don't live near London).

And yes, Rainey, I'll bring the book to Leeds in April assuming it arrives by then if you like.

Oh, thanks for the above info.

[I think my response was actually part of a thread about this
semi-collection of Ricardian letters, but like a divvy I didn't make a
note of who was publishing the things!] :)

Excellent - looking forward to it (the book, the talk at Leeds and
erm.. the company, of course <g>).

Indeed I'm looking forward to it as much as I was looking forward to a
lovely train journey (First Class, no less) down to London to the PRO
at the end of the month with Delightful Timbo except that now he goes
into hiding as soon as I bring up the proposed trip! :(

Admittedly, I'm a sad case, but no matter how many of these old
MSS/documents pass before my eyes, nothing quite beats looking at the
originals, but the train taking the strain, a bottle of wine and a
good argy-bargy en-route to Kew and back again would come a close
second.

No doubt, given current events, the 'pressure of work' card will no
doubt be cited by the News from the Ouse as some sort of excuse for
this deplorable situation...

Bah - I shall go on my own and have a great time, regardless. That'll
show him! :)

Regards - Lorraine
