very random observation...

Remember a while back when someone brought up the question of who should play
Richard III if Hollywood decided to make a movie about the wars of the roses?
I was thinking about this, then realized something really weird (and creepy).
Lord Farquaad, the character John Lithgow voiced in Shrek, bears a very weird
resemblance to Richard III LOL. I'm serious! The hairstyle, the lack of
height, the medieval clothing, it's all there! I hope I'm not the only one
who noticed this because I feel awfully weird.
by the way, if there was a movie about Richard III, my candidate for the
starring role would be Christopher Walken lol.

It's been noted, but I can't believe it was intentional.

I highly doubt it was intentional also, but I just find it so weird (that and
the fact that I noticed it lol)

I think it was intentional. The critics said he was based on Olivier's Richard III. I thought it totally priceless! My daughter and I laughed in the cinema when no one else did because of it.

One of the nearest 'Richards' I've come across is Colin Firth in a very raunchy film called The Hour of the Pig. He played a young lawyer in fifteenth century France and looked very much like a young Richard - just a little too 'fat' in the face for Richard, if I'm being picky. The film was marvellous also in the way it depicted medieval life. Well worth watching if you come across it.

Good lord and I thought nobody saw it. I was one of the Editors.

Isn't that the one also called _The Advocate?_ If so, although I've never
seen it I've heard good things about it. It's on several medievalists'
show-our-students list.

I loved Hour of the Pig. I agree that Colin Firth looked rather reminsicent
of Richard (and rather gorgeous).

It appealed because of the costumes, the period (and to me individually
because I was writing a novel which included a Seigneur with a psychopathic
son)

Yes, it is or at least it is according to imdb.com. Naturally Blockbuster won't have it and it isn't on DVD so Netflix is out.

Hey -- do you have a reference to a "show our students" list? I'm sure there's more out there than The Anchoress, but not at my Blockbuster...having a list would be helpful.

Lorraine Attreed and Jim Powers did a piece for the American Historical
Association. They shared their list with us in an issue of the Ricardian
Register back in 1993 but I was not able to get permission to put it on the
web. It might be online in our members' section -- I forget.

Oh now I have to watch Shrek again to see the connection with Laurence
Olivier! Not that I mind though, Shrek is one of my favorite movies LOL.
